Rumbita Abroad: Medellín, A Journey of Culture, Connection & Celebration

Rumbita Abroad: Medellín, A Journey of Culture, Connection & Celebration

Welcome to our first-ever Rumbita Abroad experience, where celebration met heritage in the heart of Colombia.

Over four unforgettable days, we explored, connected, and honored the rituals that remind us that we are the special occasion.

Day 1: Rooted in the Land

Our first day began with grounding, a return to the earth that sustains us.

We gathered for a farm-to-table lunch at the region’s only organic food garden, a space that celebrates Colombia’s abundance and the hands that nurture it. Afterward, we checked into our boutique hotel, a place that felt like a love letter to Medellín, where every corner reflected the city’s creative pulse. Dinner was prepared by Chef Manuel Mendoza, whose coastal flavors told a story of Colombia through each dish.

Day 1 reminded us that celebration begins with connection whether it be to the land, to one another, and to the essence of Colombia that we’re here to honor.

Day 2: Wonder in Every Corner

Day 2 revealed its magic. We ventured to El Peñol and Guatapé, where every color, street, and mural felt like a celebration in motion. Lunch overlooked the lake. Dreamy, luxurious, and fit for modern royalty (obvio). Time seemed to slow just enough for gratitude to sink in. We spent the afternoon wandering through the town, laughing, shopping, and collecting small treasures that carried the day’s spirit home.

Day 2 reminded us that magic is everywhere, in color, connection, and the moments we choose to savor.

Day 3: Connection to Purpose

Rumbita Abroad Day 3 was a journey inward. A celebration of purpose, care, and self. We began the morning at Dogscool Colombia and Fundación Instintos, learning about the importance of dog rehabilitation and how compassion ripples through communities. Then came a well-deserved spa afternoon, where stillness and self-care met (cold plunge included 🥶). As the sun set, we gathered for a closing dinner at the Bichota’s restaurant — yes, that one — filled with live music, incredible food, and laughter that echoed late into the night.

Day 3 reminded us that healing and celebration can exist in the same breath.

Day 4: Full Circle — Art, Culture & the Roots That Hold It All Together

Our final day was a homecoming, a return to what started it all. We immersed ourselves in Medellín’s artistic heartbeat: from the resilient murals of Comuna 13 to the timeless sculptures of Plaza Botero and the quiet elegance of the Museo de Antioquia. In the afternoon, we left the city behind, heading to the countryside for lunch with a local family. Between laughter, fresh food, and storytelling, we shared one last celebration, the kind that lingers long after the plates are cleared. Our final meal? A traditional bandeja paisa, served with gratitude and connection.

Day 4 reminded us that culture isn’t something we observe, it’s something we live. And there’s nothing more beautiful than celebrating it together.

From farm lunches to art walks, laughter to reflection, Rumbita Abroad: Medellín was more than a trip, it was a reminder that celebration is our heritage.

And that whether we’re gathered in the mountains of Colombia or at home lighting a candle, the essence of Rumbita remains the same: You are the special occasion.

XO, Rumbita
